Purpose
The main purpose of this position is to provide second line (Tier 1 - 2) IT support to SPU staff and students.

Minimum requirements
- National Diploma in Information Communication Technology (NQF06)
- 2 to 4 years related experience
- Experience with computer systems, LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi configuration & Microsoft/Linux environment, Active Directory
- Computer Skills (Ms Office suite)
- Experience with major hardware vendors, e.g., HP, DELL, etc. will be an added advantage.
- Industry related certifications
- Good Communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work outside of normal working hours
- Ability to work within a team,
- Driver's licence
- Capture and maintain all IT assets in the ICT inventory database and dispatch the IT equipment to the user as per written request
- Install and maintain all desktop hardware
- Install and maintain desktop software
- Install and maintain all computer peripherals
- Liaise with external providers for hardware support
- Identify common problem areas experienced to recommend corrective action
- Decide whether to send the computer to the manufacturer for repair
- Report shortfall in parts inventory to line manager
- Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with (Desktop computing equipment and software)
- Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems, including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers and administrative system,
- Provide user support for the initial training on equipment and software
- Assist users in the use of computer software if requested
- Document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal
- Forward faulty computers to the workshop
- Communicate project statuses to the helpdesk
- Coordinate and liaise with the rest of the ICT Team
- Help users scan media such as flash drive and diskettes for any malicious ware
- Help users with e-mails that they suspect might contain malicious content, and provide the Network
- Making sure end-point security system is up to date
- Develop how-to documentation and videos to support the SPU community
- Research technology trends and latest applicable
- Ensure up-to-date skills development
- Develop, recommend and implement ICT solutions
- Participate in ICT projects to ensure that successfully
- Assist with project scoping and resource allocations
- Compile/write relevant operational reports as and when required
- Research and implement best practices
- Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders
