The Manager: Academic Professional Development actively supports the Senior Manager: Curriculum, Professional Development and Student Support in meeting the strategic objectives and goals of the CTLPD through academic staff development programmes.

Thorough experience in academic professional development in a university environment.

- A master’s degree in education/Higher Education or related field in Teaching and Learning.
- At least 8 years of experience in teaching and learning related activities in Higher Education, with three of those years specifically in academic staff development within a Higher Education environment.

Duties
- Provide support to Senior Manager: Curriculum, Professional Development and Student Support in the formulation and monitoring of the CTLPD strategy.
- Provide a detailed operational plan of the academic staff capacity development portfolio, in alignment with CTLPD strategic goals and SPU vision.
- Make input in the development of the University's teaching and learning policies and strategies for academic staff development.
- Provide and communicate the academic staff capacity development portfolio’s approach to staff development.
- Assist in the implementation of the University's teaching and learning policies and strategies across faculties.
- Plan and coordinate workshops in teaching and learning, assessment of student learning and reflective practice.
- Promote research into teaching practices within the University including researching student needs and innovative learning and teaching practices.
- Ensure that development opportunities for academic staff are available in relation to enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning including participation in HELTASA and other teaching and learning conferences.
- Facilitate and disseminate innovative pedagogical practices in the faculties, including using emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
- Coordinate all academic professional development programmes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the University.
- Plan and implement induction programmes for new academic staff in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate the university mentorship programme for academic staff.
- Hold one-on-one consultation sessions with lecturers, advising on innovative teaching strategies.
- Assume accountability for the operational management of the portfolio.
- Implement a sound operations management system for effective discharge of roles and responsibilities
- Make inputs in costing the portfolio implementation plans
- Provide regular management reports on operational and strategic matters that relate to the portfolio.
- Identify and report possible risks that can hamper the achievement of key performance indicators on academic professional development.
- Provide website content for keeping the CTLPD website up to date.
- Participate in reviewing current teaching and learning and academic staff development policies and procedures
- Provide input for the development of new academic professional development policies and procedures.
- Support Senior Manager: Curriculum, Professional Development and Student Support in making input into job descriptions for staff in related portfolios in the CTLPD.
- Implement and manage operational activities.
- Support the Senior Manager in recruitment process for positions in academic professional development and related portfolios.
- Mentor new staff in the academic professional development and related portfolios.
- Support the senior manager in ensuring that staff records are kept up to date.
- Provide input into CTLPD operational, staffing and capex budget
- Manage section expenses against budget
- Asset management
- Relevant operational reports as and when required
- Research and implement best practices
- Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders
